Part of a larger album, this song starts the journal of Auris Delan's early life growing up in Manchester, detailing in abstract form the ordinary life of a young brown boy growing up in dysfunctional family, in a notoriously dangerous city. What it's like, to be aware of your surroundings and the pre-existing pitfalls designed to trap you, but not fully understanding how they came to be or how to avoid them. The pieces title eludes to the sense of having a voice in this world, but it being suppressed by the context in which you are derived, knowing that it has strength, but also knowing that often it remains unheard.

Much of the influences that build this song, hail from Auris's direct heritage and the heritage of his producer; Andres Felipe Pascua. Combining sounds of traditional Latin and Afro rhythms, along with recognizable Jazz and UK elements. Created to make you want to dance, but with deeper metaphorical content that maintains a somber and realistic sound.

The artwork which covers the single created by Jose Cooper, reflects much of the overall tone of the single, and highlights Auris's Latin, Afro and Indigenous background. For much of the BIPOC community, anime served as an escape and a form of empowerment for those of similarly oppressed background; it only made sense to immortalize his alter ego in the first release and birth of Auris's identity. From ceremonial blanket that drapes the characters arm, to the medallion of the Thunderbird that hangs from it's neck, everything is closely related to the things that kept Auris connected and emboldened throughout his life.

Lyrics

Verse 1:

Sun come down

You can see the lights from your prism

Don’t talk loud

They might mistake your words for weapons

Looking out

There lies your sisters on the river

Blood runs down

But your eyes see no colour in your prison

Escúchame

Chorus:

No room for the pride of the colours within you

Promise they’ll kill you

No room for the pride of the colours within you

Promises kill you

Can you stay

Oh oh

Can you stay

Koh ay

Verse 2:

Falling proud

There’s no winning in this loaded system

Scream no sound

Eyes to ears but no one wants to listen

Lost but found

Subjugation fills what freedom isnt

Wear your crown

But thorns make for kings with only blisters

Mirame

Chorus:

No room for the pride of the colours within you

Promise they’ll kill you

No room for the pride of the colours within you

Promises kill you

Can you stay

Oh oh

Can you stay

Koh ay
