Little Voice 3:300:00/3:30
Bio
Auris Delan is a charismatic, London based musician, who’s style was first encouraged by jazz. Training originally in contemporary dance at London Studio Centre, Auris soon realised that his deeper passion lay in what inspired his movement - music. Through dedicating his waking hours to learning the ins and outs of his now prime instrument, the piano, he quickly working as a session musician for the likes of; Warner Brothers, Sony, Big Zuu, Kill Miami, Aitch, Caleb Kunle. And composing for huge names such as; Ubisoft, Channel 4, Rambert, Ballet Black, The Green Party.
Auris’s musical talents go far beyond what most people deem possible, capable of playing four instruments, not including his voice: percussion, the trumpet, the harp, and the piano. Being able to alternate between them, or play almost all of them simultaneously. But his understanding of music doesn't fall short at just technical capability.
Empowering and shining a light on the stories of people of colour, Auris serves as a mouthpiece for those whose tales have been otherwise shunned, quieted, and silenced throughout history. His music weaves together the quieted and oppressed expressions of those who society often refuses to respect, include, or honour. Having been greatly influenced by his Native American, Caribbean and Cuban heritage, his music is, in many ways, a voice for the people.
Despite the obvious influence of Latin and Afro rhythms; both heavy parts of his heritage. Auris was born and raised in Manchester, leading to his music often exhibiting his history of growing up as a young brown boy in a dysfunctional family - in a city designed by a culture of heavy prejudice. The systems and structures in place, crafted to suppress voices of those of colour, and how these are often only understood to have been impactful later in life, is addressed within his songwriting. In many ways, his newest release tells the tale of, on some level, feeling the importance of your own voice, your own expression and experience, but having no room to express it or have it respected. It documents the journey of growing up within an oppressive system, and not understanding why that is the case.
A musical artist who’s wisdom shines through in his performances, married with being an emotional spokesperson with spectacular technical skill, Auris’s music is nothing short of inspiring, moving, and impacting, curated to not only urge you to joyfully dance, but also to reflect, question, and rethink.
